| Along with our other 3 dogs we have 3 Pit Bull Terriers. And YES, they all get along. All females -- all spayed of course. Noodles is the black and white one. Now we did not name her Noodles. She had a sweet name of Tehya but my brother who likes to re-name every dog we get started calling her Noodles because she was so long bodied.. It stuck. And she really does not look like a typical Pit Bull with her long, lean build, longer than typical nose and narrow than typical head. The brown one next to Noodles is Maska which is a Native American Name meaning Strong. She lived up to that one as she is the biggest and strongest of the three. She carries a few nick names too.. Puddin -- Tons O Fun and Pooh Bear. Most of these names say it all. A big, mushy, loveable teddy bear of a dog. Last but not least is Red.. (She came with that name).. She came to us with the most insecurity of any dog I had ever seen in my life. While loving, friendly and playful she was a disaster if we would try to leave her home. We soon found it was so obsessive that she would literally hurt herself biting and digging at any fence including chain link. And she can climb like a cat. Nothing held her in other than being chained --- which we refused to do. So -- we simply take her with us everywhere. For the first couple of months this was a bit of a problem as well due to her insecurity. She thought when we got out of the car that we were not coming back. So after a few minutes she would start honking the horn.. She would continue to honk until we showed up. She has sense stopped that with knowing that we always come back to the car and she will not be abandoned. We bought the 2 puppies to start with and when the owner moved to town - he gave us the mother. I have to say that after 50 years with all kinds of dogs, I have NEVER owned a more loveable - friendly - likable - easy going - calm, non-agressive, and happy dog as these 3 are. Other positive things about these dogs is they are non-shedders, very clean, exceptionally wonderful house dogs, learn quickly, and so love human companionship. If not monitored - they get overly friendly with people and children. Even strangers. The tails go 100 mph and all they want to do is wiggle and lick everyone. Since some people are intimidated by this type of dog - I have made a point of teaching them manners when people come to visit. I have had a great many type of dog over 50 years. But never have I enjoyed a dog so much as I have these Pits. My husband says the same and he was hesitant about it in the beginning. Among the dogs I have had in the past: - working dogs (Aussies & Border Collies) - as we used to do a lot of cattle/ranch work. I have also had German Shorthair pointers and a cross bred GS/Dalimation. A couple of Huskies, Shelties, a German Shephard, a Doberman and a host of mutt crosses. The doberman I had was so friendly someone stole her out of my yard one day while I was at work. ******************** I would guess I started working with dogs at 7 years old. We always had dogs in the house but no one seemed to care if they behaved or had manners or even much exercise. I guess I just paid more attention to these things. And have every since.. I learn something new from them every day. They can teach humans a lot if we care to learn. |
